The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, now renamed as Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries is one of the Departments in the Ministry of Agriculture founded in February, 1991, by changing over two divisions of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation to be specific Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development into a different Department. The Fisheries Division of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and a part of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries were later exchanged to this Department on 10thOctober, 1997.

The Department is in charge of matters identifying with domesticated animals generation, safeguarding, insurance from infection and change of stocks and dairy improvement, and furthermore for matters identifying with the Delhi Milk Scheme and the National Dairy Development Board. It likewise takes care of all matters relating to angling and fisheries, inland and marine.
